I met Jo on the first day of our Social Work degree. It was on the stairs of the Mills Building. She was smart and funny, and we became dear friends. Unfortunately, circumstances intervened and we lost touch. I missed our friendship greatly.
Rest in peace dear Jo xoxo
My deepest condolences to Hamish. Jo was a friend at Sydney uni when we were undergrad students when we were in the same friend circle, and much later a highly valued academic colleague at UNSW School of Public Health and Community Medicine. She was loved by students and staff alike and conveyed her passion for health management in her teaching. As Director of the UNSW Health Management Program, she led important curriculum changes and dual-degree options. It was great to see her career go from strenghth to strength at UTS and QUT. What a loss for QUT. Most of all, she was a kind and compassionate person who will be missed by all. She was taken from us far too soon. May she rest in peace with her mum and dad. I remember how she cared for her mum in her final years, all whilst juggling a busy job, and what a close and loving family she came from.
Dear Hamish and Jo’s family and friends,
I was privileged to have Jo as my PhD principal supervisor. I am forever indebted to Jo for her generosity in sharing her wisdom, insights and incredible knowledge. Jo gently challenged me to broaden my worldview, and trust my curiosity to lead me to paths yet unexplored – always through the lens of equity and social justice. I will forever treasure Jo’s support, friendship and belief in my ability to complete the PhD journey (even when my own confidence wavered). My work and life will reflect the inspiration of Jo’s influence for years to come.In particular I will always remember her kindness and care. My thoughts are with you today as you come together and remember the difference Jo made in the lives of so many, both professionally and personally ️.
Much love to you today Hamish. In the short time I have known you and Jo, I could not have found kinder or more delightful people to work with. I, along with many people I am sure, will miss Jo so much.
Kind regards

Dear Hamish, Please accept our deepest condolences at the untimely passing of your beautiful wife, Joanne. We always admired Joanne for her great faith and love of yourself and others, especially her fur girls and she was always ready and interested in all of our family. Joanne had such a delightful and gentle sense of humour and a ready smile and was such a great listener. We are so grateful that we could name Joanne as our dear friend and we will miss her presence very much. Peace and blessings, Ian and Pam Faulkner
My family and I will miss Jo greatly. Much love and hugs to Hamish – we mourn this sad and tremendous loss with you.
I too hope that God’s Peace and blessings gives you some iota of solace.
